Where did you get the birthdate of 1788 for your John? Do you know when and where he died?

According to Mike's records, the Johannes who was born 3 July 1788 died 26 January 1836 and his wife was Maria Barbara Steininger (1780-1862). Their children were Lydia, Elias, and Sabina.

The book History of the Counties of Lehigh and Carbon, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, by Alfred Mathews and Austin N. Hungerford (Philadelphia: Everts & Richards, 1884), states that Lorentz Guth Jr. was the son of the original immigrant, Lorentz Guth, and his wife, Maria Salome Goertsch. Lorentz Guth Jr. was married twice, first to Salome Dorney and second to Maria Dorney (the source misspells this name as "Dorenifen"). Lorentz Guth Jr. settled on the original estate in South Whitehall Township and died in 1814. The children of Lorentz Jr. (not sure which wife gave birth to which children) were:

      Lorentz
      Peter
      Daniel L.
      Solomon
      Henry
      John
      Adam
      4 daughters (unnamed in source)

The same book says that John, son of Lorentz Guth Jr., settled on a part of the original estate in South Whitehall Township, where he died. His grandchildren resided in Saegersville and Allentown, Lehigh County, as of 1884.

Findagrave.com shows that Lorentz Guth Jr. (Revolutionary War vet) is buried in Jordan Reformed Church Cemetery in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County.

My records (for which I don't have citations at hand) show that Lorentz Guth Jr. was born 26 Jan 1742/43 in South Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., PA (then part of Bucks Co.), and died 2 Nov 1814 in South Whitehall Twp. As I recall, he was baptized at Jordan Lutheran Church, which was the parent church of the Jordan Reformed Church. He married (1st) Anna Maria Dorney, the daughter of Daniel Dorney and Elizabeth Catherine Jarret. Anna Maria Dorney was born 6 Oct 1759 and died 13 Feb 1800.
Child of Lorentz Guth Jr. and Anna Maria Dorney:
      i. Daniel L. Guth, born March 6, 1787

Daniel L. Guth, son of Lorentz Jr., was born 6 Mar 1787 in Guthsville, South Whitehall Township, PA, and died 1 Mar 1837 in Guthsville. He married Mary Margaret Weider, the daughter of John Michael Weider and Eva Loehr. Mary Margaret was born 19 Nov 1790 and died 6 Sep 1879.
Child of Daniel L. Guth and Mary Margaret Weider:
      ? i. Silvester Guth, born August 22, 1821

Does any of this info match what you have? I am a descendant of the original immigrant Lorentz Guth and wife Maria Salome Goetsch, through their son Adam. I have more info on them but don't want to send you off on a wild goose chase if this doesn't look like your line.
