James Hammel [29]. was born Jan 22, 1826 in PA. Residence 1870 in South Whitehall, Lehigh, Pennsylvania [29]. He died Sep. 3, 1906

James Hammel married Lucy Gangewere. She was born on 28 Jun 1836. She died on 24 Sep 1901.

James Hammel and Lucy (Gangewere) Hammel had 3 children.

I would love to have better pictures of the Hammel graves in the foreground. (gary@wisserfamily.com) I inlarged them, adjusted contrast and colors to see what I could read. The stone on the left seems to say "Laura" or "Louisa" Hammel". I couldn't read the middle stone. The stone on the right seems to be a 21 year old child of James and Lucy.

Page 59 -Line 33 starts the Gangwere family with a Lucy Diefendorfer living with the family that is about the same age as Lucy Gangwere that married James Hammel.my Great Great Grandfather. The next door neighbors Jacob and Ana Wisser were my Great Great Great Grandparents. Jacobs sister Sara Wisser may have also married a Diefendorfer.

Line 1 lists Owen Hammel age 25, Phaon Hammel age 22, Sarah 15, and Monroe, age 12. Also liste in the house are Catherine Guth age 84, and Ellemanda Missimer age 4.

1870 Census July 1870 in South Whitehall Township, PA (Age 44 in 1870 census Listed as Farmer). (Lucy Age 35 - Keeps House, Lives with husband James Hammel).

Census on 07 June 1880 in South Whitehall Township, PA (South Whitehall, Leigh, PA) [30].. James was 54 on the 1880 census and listed as being born in PA (Lucy Age 43 - House Keeping, Lives with husband James Hammel).
