MARY FRANCES BREDBENNER, 85, passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday, 6 October 2006, surrounded by soft music, candles, and people who cared for her.

Mary was born on 8 November 1920, to Clifford Divirgus Downs and Floda Berdetta Boyd in Mercer County, Liberty Township, Pennsylvania. Born on that date allowed her to live through the Great Depression and World War II, a process that toughened her to the realities of what often was a difficult life.

She is preceded in death by her former husband, Robert Wirt Buchanan, and by the rare gem of a second husband, Edward Carl Bredbenner, next to whom she will rest at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.

Mary gave life and love to her four children; Mary Jo Cole, now deceased; Robert Wirt Buchanan, Jr. of Buena Park, California; Evelyn Lucille Colonello of Palm Desert, California; and Larry James Buchanan of Ashland, Oregon. Through her children, she has been blessed with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, living scattered throughout the world as seems normal in this 21st Century.

Most of them were able to say a goodbye to Mary before she passed away in Phoenix, Oregon, at the Oak Crest Foster Home. The Medford, Oregon, chapter of Hospice worked wonders, and any gifts desired to be given should be forwarded to any near-by Hospice organization. Mary would have wanted it that way.
