201 | Occupation: Doctor Richard Kennon, or Cannon as the name was pronounced and sometimes spelled, was a merchant resident at Bermuda Hundred as early as 1680. In 1685, he was factor and attorney for Mr. William Paggen, a merchant of London, who had extensive trade with Virginia. To provide his storehouse at Bermuda, Kennon visited England repeatedly. He married Elizabeth Worsham, daughter of William Worsham, and Elizabeth his wife. (Henrico co. Records). His mother-in-law married 2ndly. Lt.Col. Francis Eppes (son of Lt. Col. Francis Eppes, the emmigrant). In a grant of land to Mr. Francis Eppes in 1680 the latter was allowed to count Richard Kennon 8 times. It was the policy of Virginia at that time to encourage immigration by allowing 50 acres for every time a person passed to Virginia, and it would seem from the grant that Kennon crossed the ocean as many as eight times prior to 1680. He was justice for Henrico in 1680 and 1683. In 1686 Capt. William Randolph and Mr. Richard Kennon were paid as burgesses for 32 days. In 1686(June 1), he made a power of attorney to his brother-in-law, Mr. John Worsham. The preamble of the deed states that he was then about to sail again to Europe. In 1691 he made a deed of gift to his children, Mary, Elizabeth, Martha, William and Sarah. His will was proved in Henrico Co., August 20, 1696" (Gen. of VA Families, v. III, p. 265,of Wm. & Mary Q.). | KENNON, Richard Sr. (I521)

202 | Oliver F. Wisser, of South Whitehall township, was born in that township, March 2, 1872. He has followed farming all his life. In 1900 he began farming where he now lives. His farm consists of 115 acres and was formerly known as the Henninger homestead. In 1912 he purchased the Phaon Hummel farm of 65 acres, located near Crackersport. It is now cultivated by Edwin Wisser. The house upon the tract was built in 1800. That he is a man of prominence in his community is evident from the fact that he has filled the following offices in his township: School Director, being President of the board for two years; tax collector and road commissioner. He filled the office of Deacon for six years in the Jordan Lutheran Church. (From the HISTORY OF LEHIGH COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA) | WISSER, Oliver F. (P505)

228 | Stephen Sylvester Wisser, a merchant in West Reading for upward of twenty years, was born at Ephrata, Lancaster county, Jan. 13, 1853. When three years old his parents moved to Reamstown, and they resided at that place until 1867, when they went to Denver. He attended the public schools until he was sixteen years old, and then learned tanning, in which business his father was engaged. After remaining in the tannery for three years, and not liking the vocation, he entered the general store of S. M. Brubaker as a clerk, and continued with him for eight years. Mr. Wisser then learned cigar making and followed it for three years, when he moved to the village of Bird-in-Hand and engaged in the confectionery business, starting with a capital of less than $25. He carried on this business for three years and then determined to locate in a more promising place. He selected Reading and went there in 1882, locating at No. 240 Penn street, for the purpose of engaging again in the cigar business, but not realizing his expectations after conducting the store for two years, he removed to West Reading to engage in the grocery business. This was in 1884, and Mr. Wisser started with a limited capital at No. 26 West Penn street. In ten years he succeeded in developing a large trade, and this encouraged him to include dry goods and general merchandise in his stock in trade. By persevering and attending strictly to business he became more and more successful. Gradually enlarging his store, in 1902 he added another extensive department, that of household furniture. In the following four years he increased his trade to still larger proportions, and now he occupies three adjoining three-story brick buildings, altogether seventy-five feet wide by eighty feet deep, which evidences the extent of his great success from a small and well directed beginning. In 1876 Mr. Wisser was married to Harriet Reinhold, daughter of Frederick and Susan (Sharp) Reinhold, of Reinholdsville, by whom he had six children: Daisy, Mrs. Walter Heckman; Bertha, Mrs. Nelson Boltz; Charles; Stephen; and two who died young. He and his family have been members of the First Baptist Church at Reading since removing from Lancaster county. HE acted as one of the building committee in the erection of the superior building at Fifth and Franklin streets; and served as a trustee for several terms filling this position at the present time. Mr. Wisser's father, Samuel Wisser, was born at Grimville, Berks county, and removed to Denver, Lancaster county, when sixteen years old. He there learned the tanning business, and carried this on for some years. He married Julia Ann Rhoads, daughter of Philip Rhoads, of Reamstown, by whom he had two children: ;Ann Eliza, who died young; and Stephen. Philip Wisser, the grandfather, was of Reamstown and by occupation was a cabinet-maker. He married Julia Ann Harding, and by her had children: Samuel, William, Elias, Frederick, Edward, Mary (Mrs. John Frecht) and Harriet (Mrs. Ephraim Carpenter). | WISSER, Stephen Sylvester (I29)

September 07, 1788 parents: Lorentz Gut & A. Maria Johannes Guth b. July 27, 1792 bap. August 05, 1792 parents: Peter Gut & Magdalene John Guth b. February 04, 1810 bap. February 17, 1793 parents: Jacob Gut & Catharine Where did you get the birthdate of 1788 for your John? Do you know when and where he died? According to Mike's records, the Johannes who was born 3 July 1788 died 26 January 1836 and his wife was Maria Barbara Steininger (1780-1862). Their children were Lydia, Elias, and Sabina. The book History of the Counties of Lehigh and Carbon, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, by Alfred Mathews and Austin N. Hungerford (Philadelphia: Everts & Richards, 1884), states that Lorentz Guth Jr. was the son of the original immigrant, Lorentz Guth, and his wife, Maria Salome Goertsch. Lorentz Guth Jr. was married twice, first to Salome Dorney and second to Maria Dorney (the source misspells this name as "Dorenifen"). Lorentz Guth Jr. settled on the original estate in South Whitehall Township and died in 1814. The children of Lorentz Jr. (not sure which wife gave birth to which children) were: Lorentz Peter Daniel L. Solomon Henry John Adam 4 daughters (unnamed in source) The same book says that John, son of Lorentz Guth Jr., settled on a part of the original estate in South Whitehall Township, where he died. His grandchildren resided in Saegersville and Allentown, Lehigh County, as of 1884. Findagrave.com shows that Lorentz Guth Jr. (Revolutionary War vet) is buried in Jordan Reformed Church Cemetery in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. My records (for which I don't have citations at hand) show that Lorentz Guth Jr. was born 26 Jan 1742/43 in South Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., PA (then part of Bucks Co.), and died 2 Nov 1814 in South Whitehall Twp. As I recall, he was baptized at Jordan Lutheran Church, which was the parent church of the Jordan Reformed Church. He married (1st) Anna Maria Dorney, the daughter of Daniel Dorney and Elizabeth Catherine Jarret. Anna Maria Dorney was born 6 Oct 1759 and died 13 Feb 1800. Child of Lorentz Guth Jr. and Anna Maria Dorney: i. Daniel L. Guth, born March 6, 1787 Daniel L. Guth, son of Lorentz Jr., was born 6 Mar 1787 in Guthsville, South Whitehall Township, PA, and died 1 Mar 1837 in Guthsville. He married Mary Margaret Weider, the daughter of John Michael Weider and Eva Loehr. Mary Margaret was born 19 Nov 1790 and died 6 Sep 1879. Child of Daniel L. Guth and Mary Margaret Weider: ? i. Silvester Guth, born August 22, 1821 Does any of this info match what you have? I am a descendant of the original immigrant Lorentz Guth and wife Maria Salome Goetsch, through their son Adam. I have more info on them but don't want to send you off on a wild goose chase if this doesn't look like your line. | GUTH, Lorenz Jr. (I537)

238 | Thomas Bonner was born in 1744 to Henry Bonner and Sarah (Luten) Bonner and died on 30 Dec 1804 at his home near Dove Creek in Clarke County, Georgia. He was 60 years old. Thomas fought for Roebuck's Regiment in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War. He married Margaret Jones on 06 May 1767 in Edenton, Chowan County, North Carolina. Thomas and Margaret had eight boys and two girls: Jordan, Zadok, Nancy, Whitmal, Mary, Thomas, Allen, Willis, Josiah, and Daniel. Thomas and Margaret's marriage record lists his name as Thomas Bonner, Jr. This is because when his father died, he was a minor child. He was sent to live with Henry's brother. Since his brother had a son named Thomas, there were two Thomas Bonners living in the same house. The elder one was known by Senior, and the younger one was known by Junior, no matter their true relation. This is why Thomas (1744) is known as Thomas Bonner, Jr. on some historical documents. | BONNER, Thomas Jr. (I754)
